Quiet but not silent, thanks to National Lottery, life stories of older Chinese people can be heard

I want to tell you about an exciting new project, which represents an investigation “crossing cultures, crossing time” for many people within our communities. In July Wai Yin Society received a National Lottery grant of £36,900 for an exciting heritage project – Crossing the borders – in Manchester.

Wai Yin Society welcomes the new Consul General in Manchester

I, along with other selected representatives of the Chinese community, was invited by the new Consul General, Mr, Zheng Xiyuan, to meet with him recently in order to advise on how to enhance the interaction between the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and the local communities in Manchester. This is an auspicious start to his term of office on July 25, and we look forward to a successful time of cooperation and mutual development!

International Extravaganza

We had the opportunity to publicise our services to the community (including Motiv8) recently at an ‘International Extravaganza’ in Bolton, Greater Manchester. The event was held at at Moorgate Primary School, in Tonge Moor, to create awareness of local services available to parents; representatives from Bolton CVS, Big Local and others were in attendance.
Innovative Help for the Homeless

We were delighted to host a group of students from the Manchester School of Architecture, in an exciting partnership, for several months at our Welcome Community Centre in Cheetham Hill. Our aim was to come up with some innovative solutions to the homeless problem in Greater Manchester.
Womens’ Vote Centenary

Parents’ Wellbeing Group

We have started a parents’ group which will be running for five consecutive weeks on Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. This group welcomes all Chinese speaking mothers.
Wai Yin Society Meets Consul General

I had the pleasure of meeting with the Manchester Consul General, Dr Sun Dali, on 19th May. Dr Sun is returning to Beijing, and I would like to congratulate him on his work here in Manchester, and wish him all the best for the future.
