Motiv8: Building Better Opportunities for Greater Manchester

Wai Yin Society is a delivery partner of the Motiv8 programme, providing holistic support to empower and support Motiv8 participants. This includes IT classes, work club support, money and debt advice, ESOL courses and befriending, lunch and leisure classes. Motiv8 transforms people’s lives by helping them overcome the challenges and barriers they face to get back on track. By improving people’s wellbeing, confidence and employability skills, we increase people’s chances of accessing training or finding a job. Parents’ Wellbeing Group

We have started a parents’ group which will be running for five consecutive weeks on Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. This group welcomes all Chinese speaking mothers. It will be focusing on the improvement of their well-being, while reducing parental stress with mindfulness activities such as meditation. Manchester BME Network Awards 2017

We are pleased to announce that Wai Yin Society received two awards at the Manchester BME Network awards ceremony, on Thursday 9 February 2017, to showcase and reward the work being done by members & supporters. Our Welcome Centre, on Cheetham Hill, won an award for the fantastic work being done, by staff and volunteers, for people in one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country. Ambition for Ageing Community Radio

Due to cultural and language barriers, most Chinese older people switch their TV and radio to Hong Kong and China channels. Since then, Wai Yin regularly broadcasts on Radio Television Hong Kong 5 (RTHK5). We have had lots of feedback and requests from Manchester BME Chinese residents as many of them obtained information through these broadcasts. Furniture Upcycling

[:en]Wai Yin is running an Upcycling Furniture project, where you can get FREE training to learn how to repair and reuse old furniture. We will teach you practical skills to fix old furniture and how to sell it on to make money. We can also offer language or math support if you need it.
