International Womens Day : Women of Possibilities

We are engaging in a number of activities this month to promote International Womens Day 2018. On Saturday, there will be a “walk for women” in the city centre.

A very big “thank you” to all the visitors who celebrated with us, and staff and volunteers who turned out on Sunday 18th February in Albert Square to assist with Manchester’s Chinese New Year of the Dog celebrations, which raised awareness of Wai Yin Society’s services among the general public. This year’s festival was arguably the best ever!

Health Promotion: Living Well after Cancer

We have successfully applied for a small grant to run upcoming events in Jan/Feb 2018, to raise awareness of cancer, and to encourage people to join a nationwide cancer screening. The first is a health promotion talk, presented by Gary Witham of MMU Research Institute for Health and Social Change.
Manchester Supplementary School Accreditation Award

We are delighted to announce that, we are the first organisation to receive the new Manchester Supplementary School Accreditation Award, Foundation Level. Manchester City Council have recently created this award to prioritise safeguarding, and to keep children and young people safe in our city.
Wai Yin is an Approved SELT Course Provider

We are excited to share the news that Wai Yin Society continues to be involved as a SELT (Secure English Language Tests) approved course provider for Trinity’s UKVI approved English Exams. This means that we help learners prepare for A1, A2 and B1 English tests, which are required for visa applications.

Writing the Future Project Celebration Event

Wai Yin Society is dedicated to provide services to Black Minority Ethnic communities in Greater Manchester, and our Family Unit delivers projects to address the needs of BME families, including Dealing with Crisis, supporting, family welfare and Youth work. As a part of that, we operate the Writing the Future Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Vietnamese Academics Visit Wai Yin Society

Recently (23rd October) we were delighted to welcome a group of academic visitors from Vietnam to Wai Yin Society. They spent time with us learning about the UK’s system of, and our specific model of health and social care that we apply at our Sheung Lok Wellbeing Centre.
China Women’s Delegation Visits Wai Yin Society

We were pleased to welcome a delegation of visitors from Jiangxi Provincial Women’s Federation, People’s Republic of China, to our offices on Friday 27th October. We explained in a series of presentations and discussions the needs and challenges that we, and our service users, faced since our beginnings in Chinatown some 30 years ago to Chinese women and their families in order that they participate fully in British life; the vastly expanded services (including health and social care, anti-poverty, welfare advice, family support, youth work, ESOL lessons) that we now deliver from our three Centres in Greater Manchester to people […]
