COVID-19 Update – Centre closures and temporary service suspension

Centre closures and temporary service suspension Wai Yin Society has been taking protective measures to safeguard the health and well-being of our service user, volunteers, and staff against the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus in recent weeks. And because of additional guidance from the government about non-essential contact and social distancing, regrettably, we have not taken the decision lightly to close all our centres and suspend our classes and activities at all the centres from Friday 20th March.

Ambition for Ageing – Ageing Equally?

We are delighted to announce that the Wai Yin Society has been commissioned by Ambition for Ageing (AfA), as one of ten organisations, to deliver a research project as part of a wider programme, “Ageing Equally?” We will be researching how Chinese older people in Manchester, especially disabled people and those who speak different community languages, can grow old and happy Specifically, we will be exploring traditional Chinese beliefs of growing old, as well as difficulties faced by the older disadvantaged Chinese community in their daily lives, and gaps in services provided in order to reduce isolation and loneliness.

As part of our new Women Together Project, starting in January 2020, we have some exciting new free activities for our female learners including our ‘Tea and Confidence Workshops’ and our ‘Women’s Art Groups’.
