International Extravaganza

We had the opportunity to publicise our services to the community (including Motiv8) recently at an ‘International Extravaganza’ in Bolton, Greater Manchester.  The event was held at at Moorgate Primary School, in Tonge Moor,  to create awareness of local services available to parents; representatives from Bolton CVS, Big Local and others were in attendance. Annual Staff and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Wai Yin recently celebrated the commitment and hard work of all staff and volunteers ( including the Trustees) at the annual appreciation dinner on Tuesday 20th October 2015. Some seventy participants were in attendance including friends and family. It was also great to be hosted by some of our ESOL learners, working there! It was held at TOPS Buffet Restauarant on Portland Street, and was a great success! We would also like to thank TOPS for some prize vouchers for the fundraising raffle.  

Wai Yin at the House of Lords

Congratulations! Juanita Yau, Chairperson of Wai Yin Society, was invited to attend the House of Lords to collect an award. She was the 1st runner up for CIAC & Shaftesbury Woman Volunteer of the  Year Award 2015 The Award Ceremony took place on Monday 19th October 2015 from 3.30pm – 5.00pm at the House of Lords, kindly hosted by The Lord Sheikh on behalf of the Chinese Information and Advice Centre (CIAC). Traditional afternoon tea was served overlooking the beautiful River Thames with spectacular performances.

This has been a very difficult year for us, as well as a remarkable one. It has been remarkable because we changed our name to Wai Yin Society. The change of name reflects the true nature of our services and was decided after consulting with the staff, core volunteers and the Board of Wai Yin. Celebrating Chinese Year of Horse

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester has provided consistent support for the work of local Chinese community organisations for over decades. As the vice-chair of Wai Yin Chinese Women Society, a charity which provides services to the Chinese and other minority groups in the North West of England, I had the pleasure of attending a Chinese New Year Celebration at Mauldeth Hall organised by the Consulate General in Manchester on the 28th January this year.
