Coronation Celebration Walk

It was great fun recently to have a group walk and talk, in celebration of the recent coronation of King Charles. This was part of the GM Festival of Walking 2023. The group enjoyed a healthy walk in the Ancoats area of Manchester, an area of great historical significance for the Industrial Revolution, and international in-migration in the 1800s. The Mills there are now of architectural interest and have been tastefully adapted for modern use, including the offices of the Prince’s Trust. Discover Manchester through the #GMWalking Festival 2023, a great event that brings people together and showcases the best […]

VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2019

Volunteers’ Week is a time to say thank you for the fantastic contribution volunteers make, nationally. During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable and diverse contribution to the UK. Without our loyal and committed volunteers, Wai Yin Society would not have been able to serve the community so effectively during the past 30 years.  We will also host an annual event for our own volunteers later this year, but just to say to all volunteers up and down the country. Well done everybody!

Innovative Help for the Homeless

We were delighted to host a group of students from the Manchester School of Architecture, in an exciting partnership,  for several months at our Welcome Community Centre in Cheetham Hill.  Our aim was to come up with some innovative solutions to the homeless problem in Greater Manchester.  One solution was a very low cost housing pod made from recycled materials that can comfortably sleep one person. Another was an IKEA style design manual to enable construction of, again, very low cost buildings for the homeless to use. We would like to congratulate the students on pushing forward the boundaries, and […]
