We are a group of volunteers supporting people affected by cancer. As the need in the community is growing bigger, we need people like you to volunteer your time in whatever way you can. There are many ways to get involved, and some of which are home-based, like talking with someone over the phone, providing emotional support, or general chatting.  Your help with practical support, such as cooking a meal, cleaning or gardening would also be appreciated. We provide training and regular meetings where you will gain skills and knowledge to give you confidence. We pay travel and subsistence expenses. […]

During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable and diverse contribution to the UK. Without our loyal and committed volunteers, Wai Yin Society would not have been able to serve the community so effectively during the past 30 years.  We will also host an annual event for our own volunteers later this year, but just to say to all volunteers up and down the country. Well done everybody!

Race the Dragon!

Our partner, Your Housing Group, participated in the dragon boat race on Sunday 12th May at Salford Quays to support two charities: Wai Yin Society and Manchester Mind. With a great deal of effort (sweat, but thankfully no blood and tears) from Your Housing and Wai Yin staff and volunteers, we managed to win two out of our three races during the day. This was achieved with little experience in boat rowing,  and we demonstrated a great team spirit,  and a “can do” attitude resulting in improved performance from heat to heat. All the paddlers listened to the drummer and […]

The course concentrated on enabling students to access opportunities to improve their English and employment prospects by learning about the benefits of volunteering. Part of […]
