On the 16th of March 2018, Welcome Centre was bustling with excitement as we were hosting an Open Day. This event was funded by the Guinness Partnership.
The Open Day has provided opportunities for over 200 Guinness tenants to learn more about the services offered at Welcome Centre. For many of them, this is the first time they attended an event at a community centre near them. On the day, they were introduced to the various services that we offer and activities that they can participate in such as free English classes, general advice service, cooking classes, furniture upcycling/DIY sessions, community cafe which provides hot food 3 days a week, IT sessions, Work Club, Art classes, “Grow your own food” project, urban fish farm, and volunteering etc. David Millington, the Guinness Partnership’s Customer Liaison Officer was also there at the event, making himself available to speak to any tenants who have any issues or suggestions.
Besides having the opportunity to be active and make new friends, everyone who attended the Open Day was served a sumptuous hot meal prepared by our volunteers at the Welcome Centre.
The event was a great success as all who attended did not only leave with a full tummy of good food but also knowing that just a stone’s throw away from where they live, Welcome Centre is there to bridge the gap by providing necessary support and advice.
