Advice for travellers from Wuhan

If you have visited Wuhan and develop a fever, difficulty breathing or a cough within 14 days, you should seek medical attention either in China or on your return to the UK. In the UK, please stay indoors and avoid contact with others where possible, call your GP or ring 111 informing them of your symptoms and your recent travel to the city.  If you are in Northern Ireland, call your GP.

Information about the virus

A coronavirus is a type of virus.  As a group, coronaviruses are common across the world.  Typical symptoms of coronavirus include fever and a cough that may progress to a severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

Generally, coronavirus can cause more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people, and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease. Wuhan novel coronavirus is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China.

Wai Yin is aware of its responsibility as an organisation working with the Chinese community and as a charity running community centres.  If you have been to Wuhan or just returned to the UK, please stay indoors and isolate yourself for 14 days to avoid contact with others. If you have a fever, dyspnea or cough, you should immediately call your family doctor or call 111 to inform your symptoms and the city you have been to recently.

If you are in isolation or you have the above symptoms, please do not go to our centre. You can contact us by phone (0161 833 0377).
