Age-Friendly Manchester is a partnership involving organisations, groups and individuals across the city playing their part in making Manchester a great place to grow older. It was approached by people from the Portuguese organisation of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) who wanted to come to Manchester in November to find out more about Age Friendly work. Knowing that Manchester is the leading UK city in Age Friendly issues, they wanted to learn more about the city’s general projects and programmes. And as part of their visit on 20 November, they specifically asked to meet with Wai Yin Society regarding our well-being project. […]

Yesterday, I was honoured to attend an unveiling of a permanent memorial and commemorate the Somme in Heaton Park. It was a moving ceremony with a performance by Feelgood Theatre and the Halle community choir to remember both those known and unknown who died in the battle there, and whom will never be forgotten. Thank you for inviting me to this special event.

We recently welcomed a group of nursing students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to our Wai Yin Society Sheung Lok Centre. Thank you to Dr Gayatri-Nambiar-Greenwood, Senior Lecturer, at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) who arranged the visit on Monday 12th November 2018. We provided details of our Wai Yin services, our particular health and social care model, and how it has impacted on the community based services provided in Manchester. We also shared insights, knowledge and discussions about the differences in health care and nursing systems between Hong Kong and England. They all enjoyed the study visit, learning […]

We were delighted to welcome a visit of the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, to the North West Employers, and to our Wai Yin Society, on 6th November 2018. The delegation attended our Sheung Lok Wellbeing Centre in Ardwick, Manchester, in order to study our integrated work with local authorities and health providers. It was an enjoyable time of learning, connecting and sharing.
We recently took the opportunity to celebrate all the hard work and commitment of our wonderful volunteers during the year. Both the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr June Hitchen, and the new Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, Zheng XiYuan, honoured us with their presence, to present certificates to more than 60 of our volunteers, as a token of our appreciation. Our volunteers are involved in a wide range of service activities at Wai Yin Society: such as Tai Chi, Mandarin teaching, Dancing, the Be-friendly scheme, Sheung Lok radio programme, and Macmillan solutions supporting cancer patients. Also […]
