Tenancy Support

The Tenancy Support Service is set up in partnership between Tung Sing Housing Association and the Wai Yin Chinese Women Society.  The service is set up to give support to tenants from Black & Minority Ethnic group. 

The support may cover the following:

  • TENANCY SUPPORT – set up and run your home; get gas, electric and water switched on; find furniture; sort out rent and other bills; keep your home and yourself safe and secure
  • MONEY & DEBT MANAGEMENT – maximize income by applying for the correct benefits; budgeting advice and set up payment plans
  • INFORMATION ON LOCAL COMMUNITY & CULTURAL SERVICES – get information and services in your language; contact the doctor, dentist and other health services in your area; point out relevant cultural or religious organisations
  • EDUCATION, TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT – look for jobs and train for work; see what education courses there are in your area
  • LIAISON – put you in touch with other service providers such as Community Mental Health, Alcohol & Drug teams and Welfare Advisors
  • GENERAL SUPPORT – talk about any problems; put you in touch with refugee & asylum organizations; help if you’re suffering racial harassment or discrimination; make appropriate links with Police, Legal or Social Services

THE SERVICE IS CONFIDENTIAL & ALL ACTION TAKEN WILL BE DISCUSSED & AGREED WITH THE SERVICE USER.

The service is funded through the Supporting People government initiative and the service is FREE of charge to successful applicants.

The tenancy support officers can offer service users support for between six months and two years.  The amount of support will vary over time depending upon the individual needs of the service user.

In order to be considered eligible for the service, you must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • BME residents, with indefinite leave to remain in the UK
  • Living within the Manchester City Council boundary

WE PARTICULARLY WELCOME APPLICATIONS FROM PEOPLE WITHIN THE CHINESE AND SOUTH-EAST ASIAN COMMUNITIES.

The service is available at Wai Yin Chinese Women Society on every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
