The Wai Yin Chinese / Vietnamese Mental Health Project was set up in 1999 as one of the many projects at Wai Yin as a result of needs identified during research funded by the National Lottery.
Due to the stigma attached to people with mental health problems, the name Chinese / Vietnamese Mental Health Project was changed to the Kwan Wai Project in 2002. Kwan Wai means support and caring.
We are funded by Manchester Social Services Department, and our services are free to any resident of Manchester. However, we are able to provide services to anybody in the Greater Manchester area who is referred and funded by social services.
